Valencia centre, the commercial district par excellence, high standard shops and specialized ones. Best linked by train, tube and bus efficient web. Wide busy terraces and gardening places to go for a nice walk
In spite of the town growing development, the Valencia centre is still considered as the spreading area starting around la Plaza del Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) expanding in a radial way, so different from the historical old downtown, and leading to the old river bed, as we initiate our tour towards calle Colón or towards calle Xátiva. In this wide zone it is remarkable:
La Plaza del Ayuntamiento. This triangular square is the union between the old town and the modernist districts. On one side it leads us to the bustling calle Colón, the most commercial zone in the town, and the modernist suburban development.
La Estación del Norte (Railway Station) founded in1927, by Demetrio Gil a true jewel of the modernist art with the most characteristics elements from the local industry then and a huge iron cover over the platforms.
El Mercado de Colón. Placed between Jorge Juan and Cirilo Amorós streets, it covers a full quarter, surrounded by modernist, neogothic and eclectic buildings. It’s been turned into a leisure place with elegants cafes and high quality restaurants. The exquisite ceramic tiles that decorate its façade is the same style as the one in the railway station.
Gran Vía Marques del Turia valencianas, boulevards from the XX century’s first years (Marqués del Turia, Germanias, Ramón y Cajal, Fernando el Católico) with a busy traffic today but yet permiting a walk or having a drink at its terraces to contemplate its magnificents magnolia trees. These avenues are most valuable to getting closer to other farther interesting points like:
El Jardín Botánico (Botanic Garden)
The oldest in the town being from 1802. It’s the site for more than 300 species including a tropical garden which was protected by an iron and glass stove.
IVAM (Modern Art Museum) Placed in Guillem de Castro roundabout, it appears as a magnificent building with huge glass panes in its front side and a wide terrace. Cutting edges works and permanent art collections from the varied european plastic and photographic tendencies.
